Skills & assessment. The unit builds medical, nutritional and psychological register across a wide vocabulary range. Public health campaigns and comparisons of healthcare access supply authentic listening and reading material for Paper 2, while structured argument and text-type practice prepare the written task of Paper 1 and the individual oral.

Skills & assessment. Cultural description and narrative are the working registers here, and the range of authentic material — menus, programmes, reportage, travel writing — models the text types students must produce for Paper 1. Comparative discussion of customs across francophone regions builds directly towards the individual oral.

Eight topics — Divertissements numériques, Énergies renouvelables, Éthique et sciences, Éthique et technologie, Impact des technologies de l’information sur la société, Moyens de communication, Partialité des médias, and Publicité — treat human invention as both a cultural product and a social force: how francophone media inform and persuade, and how scientific and technological choices come to be argued over.

Skills & assessment. This is where evaluative and argumentative language is developed most explicitly, since students are repeatedly asked to weigh competing positions — surveillance, biotechnology, the energy transition, the digital divide. Authentic press and broadcast material serves the listening and reading demands of Paper 2, while the same debates supply positions to defend in the written task of Paper 1 and the individual oral.

Six topics — Célébrations et événements sociaux et religieux, Langue et identité culturelle, Minorités, Relations interpersonnelles, Structures sociales et politiques, and Système éducatif — examine the social fabric of francophone communities, from the organisation of schooling and the state to minority rights and the relationship between language and belonging.

Skills & assessment. Comparison is the unit’s central move: students describe and evaluate social and educational arrangements across francophone countries, which builds exactly the sustained, structured speech the individual oral rewards. The same material supports the argued written response required by Paper 1, and the documentary and reportage texts serve Paper 2.

Nine topics — Assimilation et apprentissage interculturels, Communication verbale et non verbale, Croyances, valeurs et normes culturelles, Diversité des langues et influence interlinguistique, Diversité des populations et migrations, Migrations, Racisme, discrimination et préjugés, Réchauffement de la planète et changement climatique, and Réserves d’énergie — pair the environmental questions a shared planet raises with the intercultural ones, treating migration, discrimination and linguistic diversity as part of the same problem of living together.

Skills & assessment. The unit carries the heaviest conceptual vocabulary in the course, and lessons work systematically on the language of cause, consequence and response. Francophone case studies — policy debates, social movements, environmental initiatives — give students an evidence base for the argued writing of Paper 1 and the extended discussion of the individual oral, while the same reportage supports Paper 2.

Five lessons across two topics — Lecture et analyse des œuvres littéraires and Rédaction créative inspirée des œuvres littéraires — introduce NS students to the skills of literary analysis in French, covering themes, characters, and narrative technique, and guiding students through the process of producing a creative text and accompanying préambule based on works studied.

Skills & assessment. This unit maps directly onto the NS internal assessment requirement, supporting students in analysing two literary works in French and in writing a creative response with an explicit commentary on their stylistic and thematic choices. Tasks develop the formal written register and metalinguistic vocabulary that distinguish NS performance at the highest mark bands.
